As if an internal clock ticks during the final days of vacation and the summer break, we are prompted by the "back to school/back to work" messages. Most people, most of the time, live undramatic lives. As we venture back to routines, time and energy are given over to carpools, grocery shopping, clients, bill-paying, house-keeping, and yard maintenance. But in the midst of the many "start-up" duties, we have the outstanding opportunity of breaking through the mundane of routine to realize again how each of us can be "the salt of the earth and the light of the world" in local and vital ways.
As we come back to August beginnings, may we cast our individual dreams and needs into the larger mission of Holy Innocents Church -- of connecting and engaging ourselves in worship, prayer, study, service and giving.
On Sunday, September 10 we start back to our fall schedule of services. The Faith Forum for that Sunday and the next, September 17, will be given over to the important themes of stewardship. On the 10th, I will look at a broad spirituality of giving entitled "From Whom All Blessings Flow." On the 17th, Dave Stockert will lead a session on the capital effort of debt reduction for our new buildings, and how each of us is needed in both capital and annual giving. We ask you to mark your calendars and please join us for these two Sundays in the fall.
In the meantime, we hope you will pray for the search process of Holy Innocents -- for the Nominating Committee and the Vestry as they move into the important dimensions of receiving names and conversing with candidates. To that end, we have placed a prayer in the Oratory, asking parishioners to stop by and offer a prayer. The Oratory is next to the Christ Chapel, down the hall from the Narthex and the main Nave.
