Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church

From the Staff @ HIEC

What an incredible weekend!

What an incredible weekend! This past week the joint work with Temple Sinai was a huge success with hundreds of people participating. Worship and study there as well as here were packed beyond our dreams and participants are already asking what more we can do together.

Rabbi Ron Segal and I are beginning to ask that very question. We will explore common ground as we debrief our weekend and ask how God might be calling us to study and work together more. We will need your help and will be in touch as to what possibilities are before us.

There is so much going on in our world that this interfaith study helps us contemplate and process. From global and national politics to questions about children in our midst here in Sandy Springs, working together with those whose faith challenges us is an imperative of the Episcopal tradition.

This weekend, we embark on yet another aspect of challenge as we begin our Forum series entitled “Dismantling Racism.” This eight-week course will challenge all of us as long-time member and lay-leader Ursula Simmons joins our Vicar, The Rev. Lisa Zaina, to lead us along this journey. The series launches on MLK weekend, a favorite of mine as we blow the roof off the nave singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” as our closing hymn. I know you will not want to miss it.

One more related opportunity for peace and justice in the world. In HI Lights you can register for reading with a child at a local school. You can also sign up for training in advance of enrichment and afterschool programming we will offer, as well as for opportunities with our ESL program through La Amistad. Put your faith into action for those often most at risk, and honestly, most often left behind and unseen by so many in our society.

I am deeply thankful for the good work God is revealing among us. I am deeply thankful for you.

See you soon!

The Rev. Michael R. Sullivan +
