Memorial Garden

In 1986, members of Holy Innocent’s Episcopal Church established the Memorial Garden as an appropriate, consecrated, and maintained place for the interment of the cremated remains of Holy Innocents’ parishioners and their family members. The garden is located on the Powers Ferry Road side of the Church. A beautiful water feature was added to the original setting and provides a restful meditative atmosphere for this sacred place.

The Memorial Garden is administered by the Vestry, clergy, and staff of the Church, who also direct the perpetual care of the garden.  The parish custodial staff and parish volunteers oversee the regular maintenance and care.

The cremated remains are those of a member of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church, a former member, or a member of his or her family.  Exceptions to this policy may be made upon the request to the rector.

The created remains are to be buried in biodegradable containers.

Plots are selected by the family of the deceased, and the location of occupied or reserved plots are shown on a diagram kept in the church office.  Plots are numbered on the plat indicating the burial plot number that is between the numbered markers mounted in the ground in the garden.

The Garden is available for interment of the created remains of individuals in perpetuity.  In the event that all plots are used, remains may be reverently interred in previously used plots.

The name of each person whose created remains are interred in the Garden, with the dates of birth and death, are listed on an individual cast bronze name plat; mounted on a master bronze plaque on the wall on the outside of the nave of the church leading to the Garden.  This plaque is the only marker in the Garden.  A plaque inside the nave details the plot number of the deceased.

The fee for interment is $1000.00, payable at the time of application.  However, applications will be accepted upon receipt of a deposit of $100.00, with the balance of the payment being due not later than one year from the date of application.

Upon approval of the application, a letter of confirmation will be issued along with a receipt of payment. The application and the acceptance letter, together with the regulations of the Memorial Garden will constitute a contract between the applicant and Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church.

The original contract will be kept in a permanent file in the office of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church.  A copy of the contract will be forwarded to the applicant.
