In the fall of 2006, the parish leadership recognized a need for a strategic plan that would provide us with a roadmap for the next five years and beyond. Although the year that followed was marked by some abrupt changes at HIEC, the Church’s Strategic Plan was one factor that helped provide a sense of moving forward and positive initiative. As a result of much intentional work by your Vestry, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Clergy, and Church Staff, the Strategic Plan helped remove the negative stigma from the word “change” and helped assure the parish that “change” at HIEC involved intentional transformation and spiritual growth.
The goal of the Plan was to define who we wanted to be as a Parish by affirming our Mission and Vision Statements, by identifying the major objectives of our Parish, and by proactively planning the Priority Initiatives to accomplish these Objectives over the next five-year period.
The seven priority initiatives indentified were:
• Outreach
• Youth
• Elderly
• Small Group
• Church and School Relationship
• Facilities
• Newcomers
The Plan garnered significant enthusiasm and feedback from our well-attended parish retreat, “Back to our Future” in 2007. During 2007 and 2008, the Strategic Plan next moved into the implementation phase with the support of the Vestry and an active Strategic Planning Committee and individual initiative task forces.
In 2009, the Vestry took the next and logical step of incorporating the Strategic Plan and its priority initiatives into the life and fabric of the parish. The Vestry assigned responsibility for the Plan’s priority initiatives into the revamped standing committee structure and merged the task forces with the existing committees. The renewed interest in the future of our parish and in volunteering now continues in our standing committees.
If you have an interest in serving on a committee or subcommittee or volunteering in any other capacity at HIEC, please contact the Church office.
